- Dr. Victoria Kisyombe

Dr. Victoria Kisyombe’s organization has empowered women in Tanzania to become economically self-sufficient. Sero Lease and Finance Ltd (SELFINA), formally registered in 2002, is a for-profit operation that provides micro-leasing to women in Tanzania. Victoria’s micro-leasing model has generated praise beyond Tanzania, and efforts are underway to expand the model to other countries in the region.

Victoria was profiled by the World Bank in 2007 – “Doing Business in Africa.” Victoria was also honored Africa Social Entrepreneur of the Year 2010 by the World Economic Forum/Schwab Foundation in recognition of visionary, pragmatic and courageous contributions that significantly improve the state of the world. She is now a permanent Schwab Fellow and a Member of the World Economic Forum Global Agenda Council on New Growth Models.

Victoria Kisyombe received the Women of Determination 2011 award as Tanzania marked 50 years of independence.

Vital Voices Global Partnership, founded by the Hon. Hillary Rodham Clinton, honored Victoria with the Economic Empowerment Award at the 2014 Global Leadership Awards in Washington, D.C.
